Western North Carolina is known for many things – flowing singletrack followed by rugged descents, miles of beautiful and serene country roads, seemingly endless gravel tracks… and really good beer.
To honour that brewing heritage Cane Creek is offering their own small batch series of products in a deep amber colour named IPA after the iconic brew. These are the same quality products that riders know and love, just with a little bit of extra tasty goodness.
The Hellbender 70 Bottom Bracket uses the same platform and ethos as the original Hellbender Bottom Bracket to create a BB with excellent durability, corrosion resistance, and exceptional ride quality. Where the Hellbender 70 differs is that it utilises a bearing made of 440C stainless steel rather than the SKF MTRX bearings found in the original Hellbender bottom bracket. This keeps the cost down while still offering excellent resistance to contamination and corrosion. The Hellbender 70 Bottom Bracket will be an impactful and lasting upgrade to any bike.
Style:Â The Small Batch IPA models are available in BSA 68/73 threaded options only.
Spindle size (diameter): 30mm or DUB (28.99mm) only.
Note: DUB cranks require the fitment of a 4.5mm drive side spacer but Cane Creek do not include this with their DUB BB’s so it needs to be sourced separately.
Bearing style: 440C stainless steel bearings
Bearing cup / shell material: 6061 T6 machined aluminium cups with black anodised finish. (BB92/PF41 variant does not come with cups).
Installation tools: Installation tools: BSA Threaded and PF30/BB30 Threadfit models require a 12 notch, 46mm OD BB tool (same as Raceface Cinch/SRAM DUB).
What’s in the box:
- BSA/PF30/BB30: Bearings, BB cups, spacers
- BB92/PF41: Lipped bearings (no cups), spacers
Takeaway: Stainless steel bearings provide greater resistance to corrosion and fouling than many standard BB bearings. The Threadfit system on the BB30/PF30 models ensures perfect alignment and will banish creaks.
