Pearl Izumi Elite Escape Barrier Vest is the perfect companion when the temperatures begin to drop. This lightweight vest provides warmth and wind protection across your core while mesh on the upper back helps to dissipate heat. Stretch panels and binding around the sleeve openings not only create a tailored fit but also reduce wind noise from loose fabric. Best of all the Elite Escape Barrier Vest is ultra-packable and easily fits into a pocket or bag when not in use.Â
Who’s this item for: Riders who tend to head out for morning, evening or night rides when the temps are a bit lower. This is a great winter piece of gear.
Element Resistance: Wind. This vest has some minor thermal properties as well.
Fit Type: Pearl Izumi calls the fit ‘Form Fit’. It fits close to the body.
Materials: The vest is made from 100% polyester. Access to the vest is via a full length zipper that has a draft flap to help seal in the warmth. When zipped up to the collar the zipper tucks into a ‘zipper-garage’ to ensure you don’t feel it rubbing on your skin. You’ll find elasticized hem and armholes to help keep the heat in. The mesh panel found on the upper back vents excess heat really well.Â
Pockets Position and Quantity: There is one rear zipper pocket for storage.
Hood: No hood here.
Pros: Vests are often overlooked in the MTB world but truth is there aren’t many things that work better to keep you warm (but not too warm) when riding during the cooler months. Nice snug fit. Zipper storage pocket.
Cons: The ‘Form Fit’ is a snug fit that might not be everyone’s cup of tea.Â
